100 Million-Year-Old Meteorite Crater Discovered in Australia | WION Podcast

A 100-million-year-old meteorite crater, 5 km in diameter, was discovered near Ora Banda, Western Australia, during gold mining operations. Found using electromagnetic surveys, it’s five times larger than the famous Wolfe Creek crater. Dr. Jayson Meyers, a geophysicist, called the discovery significant, as the crater had been hidden over time in the flat landscape. This find suggests Earth has been struck by more asteroids than previously thought, potentially helping scientists predict future meteorite impacts. Earlier this year, Australia also revealed the world’s oldest crater, Yarrabubba, dating back 2.23 billion years.
