19,000 suspected or confirmed mpox cases this year
The number of suspected and confirmed mpox cases reported this year, is nearing 20 thousand. The outbreak began in the Democratic Republic of Congo, but the first cases outside Africa were recorded in Sweden and Pakistan earlier this week.
