Aid corridor a ‘convenient second choice’ for Biden
Sultan Barakat, professor of public policy at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, says that the US announcement of a maritime aid corridor to Gaza is meant to distract people from the fact that there are trucks full of aid at the Egyptian border.
“I think it’s one of the main purposes for making this announcement at this particular time,” he told Al Jazeera, adding that it also helps US President Joe Biden domestically “given the pressure on him to say something constructive related to Palestine.
“He had hoped to present a ceasefire. That wasn’t happening, so this was a convenient second choice.”
