Israeli Army announces death of eight troops in south Lebanon ground offensive

The Israeli army reported that eight of its troops, including a captain, were killed on Wednesday in clashes with Hezbollah fighters after crossing into Lebanon. Initially, the Israeli military confirmed the death of Captain Eitan Itzhak, marking the first combat loss in its ground invasion of Lebanon. Later, they announced the deaths of seven more soldiers.
Israel is carrying out what it calls ‘limited, localised raids’ against Hezbollah.
Hezbollah says it attacked and repulsed Israeli troops who infiltrated near the town of Odaisseh in southern Lebanon, and “inflicted losses and forced them to retreat”.
Across the rest of Lebanon, there have been continuous Israeli airstrikes – especially on the Lebanese capital.

Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr reports from the Lebanese capital, Beirut.
