Tunisians vote in presidential election, with Kais Saied expected to win

Tunisians are voting in a presidential election, with current leader Kais Saied widely expected to win due to a lack of significant competition. Many serious challengers have been disqualified or jailed, leaving Saied in a strong position. He was elected in 2019, riding on public dissatisfaction with the previous government’s inability to stimulate the economy. However, after five years in office, unemployment remains high, particularly among the youth, and food prices have skyrocketed.

Al Jazeera’s Bernard Smith reports from Tunis.
