Afghanistan: Taliban To Be Taken To International Court Over Gender Discrimination | WION Originals
Australia, Canada, Germany, and the Netherlands initiate legal efforts against the Taliban regime. One country has taken another to court at ICJ for the first time over gender discrimination. Case is under the convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women. Taliban has been accused of abusing the rights of Afghan women and girls since the 2021 takeover. In the first legal move against it, Afghanistan would have six months to respond. Post that ICJ would hold a hearing and probably propose provisional measures. Advocates say the ICJ ruling will affect states seeking to normalize relations with the Taliban. Watch to know more!
