Argentina poverty surges: First official figures since new govt cut spending
More than half the population of Argentina is living in poverty, according to figures released by the nation’s official statistics office.
That is nearly twenty-five million people – a steep rise in the past year.
These are the first official figures to be released since President Javier Milei took office last year, implementing a series of radical cost-cutting measures.
Al Jazeera’s Daniel Schweimler reports from the capital Buenos Aires.
