China’s National Day 2024: Country marks 75 years of communist party rule
China, a global superpower, is celebrating its National Day, 75 years after the founding of the People’s Republic. The flag flies over Tiananmen Square, where Xi Jinping paid tribute to national heroes, urging unity and determination for the future. However, celebrations are subdued this year due to stalling economic growth and a shaky real estate market, sparking concerns about whether China’s great leap forward may be slowing. Tight security surrounds Tiananmen, with roads and subway stations near the square closed to the public.
