Egyptian soldier killed in fire exchange with Israeli forces near Rafah border crossing
An Egyptian military spokesman has stated that Egyptian forces are investigating a shooting on the Rafah border that resulted in the death of one of their soldiers.
Initially, Israeli media reported that cross-border fire had originated from the Egyptian side towards Israeli soldiers, who then responded. This information was subsequently retracted by order of the Israeli military but was later permitted to be reported again.
Israel seized control of the Palestinian side of the crossing earlier this month when it began its assault on Rafah.
