EU and Gulf leaders deliver opening remarks at first EU-GCC Summit in Brussels

Leaders of the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council are holding their first joint summit in Brussels. The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who currently holds the rotating presidency of the GCC, and Charles Michel, President of the European Council, are co-chairing the meeting. While topics like energy, trade, and climate are being discussed, the primary focus is the Middle East, as conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon escalate, raising concerns of a wider regional war. Russia’s war in Ukraine is also on the agenda.
