European migration pact: EU Parliament to vote on asylum reforms
After years of political deadlock, the European Union is voting on legislation to overhaul its asylum and migration policy.
The reforms have been in the works since 2016 — and are aimed at easing pressure on southern countries such as Greece and Italy.
It comes as the annual number of migrant deaths in the Mediterranean continues to grow — with more than 3,000 deaths last year alone.
Camille Le Coz is an associate director with the think tank: Migration Policy Institute Europe.
She says the agreement will help solve the EU migration challenges.
