Gaza’s students turn classrooms into shelters amid war, struggle to continue education

Eighteen-year-old Doaa al-Zanin, displaced from Beit Hanoon in northern Gaza, now lives in an evacuation centre. Israel’s war on Gaza has turned classrooms into makeshift homes and shelters, with students marking off the days since the war began. Despite the bombing and displacement, Doaa continues to study, though she won’t be able to sit her exams as all universities in Gaza are either damaged or destroyed. Some students have managed to continue their studies abroad, but those in Gaza face significant challenges. Education remains a crucial source of hope for a better life under occupation, but the ongoing Israeli offensive has prevented high school students from taking their exams this year.

Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzoum reports from Deir el-Balah, Gaza.
