How likely is a regional conflict in the Middle East? | Inside Story

The Israeli military has been exchanging fire with the Lebanese group Hezbollah almost daily since October the 7th.
Hezbollah says it’s in solidarity with its ally in Gaza, Hamas, and that it will continue as long as Israel bombards the strip.
This week, Israeli strikes killed 10 civilians — including children — in southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah has promised to retaliate.
Both sides say they’re not looking for all-out war, but increasingly, attacks are happening far beyond the border area.
What does each party want to achieve?
