Kenyan president says ‘criminals’ hijacked protests, laments ‘loss of lives’

Kenyan President William Ruto has addressed the nation after several people were killed in demonstrations against a controversial new bill that would increase taxes on essential items like bread and cooking oil.

Ruto has blamed the protests on a group of or organized criiminals

He says the government has mobilized the all necessary resources to ensure that events such as the ones today, do no happen again

He thanked the young people of Kenya and assured them the conversation that they began around the issues that concern them, will continue
He says however the conversation must respect the rule of law and the respect of institutions.
It’s very painful for Kenya that a conversation this crucial was hijacked by dangerous people
