Manila celebrates Olympic heroes as Marcos promises more sports funding after Yulo’s historic wins
From the moment the Philippines’ most successful Olympic team in a century landed, they were celebrated with a grand motorcade through Manila, cheered on by proud citizens. The star of the event, 24-year-old gymnast Carlos Yulo, made history by winning two gold medals—the first time the country has achieved such a feat. Despite the triumph, the celebration also highlighted the lack of support for many Filipino athletes. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. acknowledged the issue, promising more government funding to improve the country’s sports programs ahead of the 2028 Olympics.
