Mid-autumn festival faces disruptions from Typhoon Bebinca and hospital strikes across East Asia

Millions of people across parts of East Asia have been celebrating the mid-autumn festival, which coincides with this week’s full moon. In South Korea, Chuseok festivities have placed additional strain on hospitals already burdened by a seven-month doctors’ strike. The government has urged citizens to avoid medical emergencies amid fears of hospital overwhelm. Meanwhile, unseasonably high temperatures persist following a record-breaking heatwave. In China, cities like Hong Kong and Beijing are filled with festive lanterns. However, Typhoon Bebinca disrupted celebrations in Shanghai, where clean-up efforts continue after the largest storm since 1949.
