New York city migrant crisis: City sues companies transporting migrants from Texas
New York City has sued 17 bus companies for transporting migrants to the city, from the southern border state of Texas. More than 33-thousand migrants have arrived in New York on buses contracted by Texas in the past two years.
It’s part of a campaign by the state’s Republican governor to expel people who cross the border from Mexico illegally.
New York City says it wants the bus companies to pay more than 700 million dollars, towards the cost of housing the migrants. The City argues that they are required to do so under present laws. It alleges that they violated a law which requires anyone bringing in people who are likely to seek government help, to cover their expenses.
