Not in Our Name: CU’s Jews for Ceasefire group calls for peace amid Gaza war escalation

Aharon Dardik, an American Jewish student activist at Columbia University, moved to the West Bank at 13, finding it vastly different from California. His beliefs gradually shifted, with a pivotal moment occurring during the 2019 protest when the US relocated its embassy to Jerusalem. Witnessing the violent response to a peaceful march changed his perspective. Drafted into the IDF in 2020, he later became a conscientious objector, facing multiple court martials and imprisonment. Now a junior studying philosophy and political science, and since the start of the war on Gaza, Dardik has led Columbia’s Jews for Ceasefire, advocating for the collective liberation of Israelis and Palestinians.

Al Jazeera spoke to Aharon, and this is his story.
