One year of Israel’s war on Gaza: The resurgence of Netanyahu
Benjamin Netanyahu has long opposed the creation of a Palestinian state, often clashing with US Presidents, the international community, and his own people. His stance, rooted in his father’s belief that Jews must live in a fortress for survival, pushed him to focus on security through force, favouring Israel’s military strength. His political success thrived on Israeli insecurity, particularly during moments of conflict. Despite paying lip service to peace, Netanyahu resisted agreements, notably the Oslo Accords, and continued settlement building. His policies have escalated tensions in the region, including with Hamas and Hezbollah.
Al Jazeera’s Mohamed Vall takes a look at his rise.
