Press freedom in India: Fears of crackdown undermining democracy
India’s seven-phase general elections are drawing to a close – with the last round on Saturday.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ten year governance media freedom has come under a serious threat.
Journalists have been arrested and harassed for holding the government to account.
As Modi seeks a third term there are fears the press freedom will continue to decline.
A reminder, the Indian government has not granted visas to Al Jazeera’s journalists – so we are covering the election from outside the country.
Al Jazeera’s Barbara Angopa reports.
