Shia parties top Iraqi vote over half the population abstained from poll
The initial results of the Iraqi provincial election were announced on Tuesday. The ruling Shia alliance took the largest block of votes in the capital and in the south. According to Iraq’s high independent electoral commission, 41% of eligible voters participated in the process, despite calls for boycotts.
