Storm Boris causes severe flooding in central Europe, submerging villages and displacing thousands

Entire villages in Eastern Romania are submerged due to Storm Boris, with firefighters rescuing people, sometimes carrying them on their backs. Thousands of homes have been damaged, trapping residents and livestock. In the Czech Republic, over 50,000 homes are without power, with debris being cleared to prevent further damage. Residents describe the flooding as the worst in decades, comparing it to 1997. In Poland, officials are preparing for rising water levels as rivers pose a major threat. Forecasters predict parts of Eastern and Central Europe may receive a third of their annual rainfall.

Al Jazeera’s Dmitry Medvedenko reports.
