Sudanese army and RSF fighting intensifies in Sennar state

A fierce battle rages across Sudan as the Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been in conflict for over a year. Once allies, the leaders of the Army and RSF fell out over integrating the RSF into the Army, leading to widespread armed conflict. The RSF controls many areas in the west and south, while the Army holds most of the east and north. The fighting has intensified recently in North Darfur, West Kordofan, and Sennar states. This conflict has caused the world’s largest internal displacement crisis, with over nine million people forced to flee and nearly 26 million facing severe food shortages. Both sides face accusations of war crimes, and calls for dialogue and ceasefire have failed. The suffering of Sudan’s people continues.

Al Jazeera’s Alex Gatopoulos reports.
