US president Biden: Iran ‘responsible’ for supplying weapons for Jordan attack

Maksad discussed the potential response to the recent attack in Jordan. He highlighted that President Biden is cautious about escalating tensions with Iran and is more inclined towards diplomatic efforts, as seen in the Paris mediation for releasing hostages. Additionally, he suggested that the Biden administration might opt for a tiered, sustained campaign against militias in Syria and Iraq, possibly targeting Iranian officials. Maksad argued that Iran’s plausible deniability is not credible, given its historical support for these groups. Further, he predicted a measured response from the Biden administration, avoiding direct targeting of Iran itself. On the Iraqi front, Maksad noted the delicate situation, where Iran aims to strain US-Iraq relations to increase the likelihood of US troop withdrawal.
