UNGA 2024: Macron warns Israel against expanding war to Lebanon, calls for Palestinian state
Day two of the UN General Assembly was dominated by concerns over the escalating Gaza war and the potential for conflict spreading across the Middle East. French President Emmanuel Macron criticised Israel’s prolonged military campaign in Gaza, warning against expanding operations into Lebanon. He stressed the importance of diplomacy to protect civilians and prevent a regional escalation, also calling for the establishment of a Palestinian state. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sought continued support against Russia’s invasion, but discussions remained largely focused on the growing threat of conflict in the Middle East.
Al Jazeera’s Teresa Bo reports from the UN headquarters in New York.
